Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation Announces Dr. Ioanna Morfessis to be honored at 12th Annual Heroes of Education Event
Dr. Ioanna Morfessis, President of IO.INC, has been named as the 2017 honoree of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation (MCCF) Heroes of Education award. This award, celebrating its 12thyear, is given to a champion of public education in Arizona and recognizes the personal and professional commitment to support Maricopa Community College students and educational opportunities. Morfessis has been an outstanding advocate for education by providing leadership and support for numerous initiatives at the Maricopa Community Colleges.

Wilmington businessman kills self as embezzlement case looms 4/24/17

Caleb McMahon, the Alliance’s director of economic development, completed the Mid-South Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC) in early April. The course is accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). This year it was held at the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce at Little Rock.

Hot Springs constituents complete course in economic development 4/17/17
Offered annually in the spring, the Mid-South Basic Course provides an intensive overview of the process and practice of local economic development. It features more than 20 instructors who are recognized experts in their fields. It is one of 22 such courses accredited by the International Economic Development Council.

Grand Forks EDC CEO Klaus Thiessen to retire 4/13/17

Jon Bittner appointed SBDC Statewide Director 4/12/17
In 2015, Bittner was named to the Top 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in Economic Development by the Development Counsellors International (DCI). The International Economic Development Council named Bittner the Young Economic Development Professional of the Year in 2014. That same year, Bittner was selected to Alaska’s Top 40 Under 40 by the Alaska Journal of Commerce.

The Georgia Tech 50th Annual Basic Economic Development Course will be held at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center in Atlanta on March 21 to 24, 2017. Since its inception in 1967, the BEDC has prepared more than 3,100 economic developers from all over the world for the International Economic Development Council certification exam.

Douglas County officials hoping business retention effort will help spark local job growth 3/14/17
The goal, according to county economic development coordinator and Spark DC program manager Becky Nelson, is to establish relationships, open a dialogue and gain insight into how the county can support and nurture those companies. Governor Abbott Appoints Eight To One Call Board Of Texas 3/13/17
Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Jason Hartgraves and Janie Walenta, and appointed Jesus Antonio Garza and James Schneider to the One Call Board of Texas for terms set to expire on August 31, 2018. Jesus Antonio Garza of Kingsville is the City Manager for the City of Kingsville. He is a member of the Texas City Management Association, International Hispanic Network, and International City Management Association and of the International Economic Development Council.
