How long have you worked in economic development?

More than 20 years

How did you enter the economic development profession?

It took a few years, but after realizing that is what I had been doing my entire career, I was able to call it what it is. I simply love helping my communities grow, provide more economic opportunities and be amazing places for people and businesses.

What is your favorite thing about working in economic development?

I love knowing that our work changes the trajectory of peoples lives. You may never meet someone impacted but just knowing that new company provided a job that opened a new economic opportunity for that family is truly amazing.

Tell us about the community or organization you represent.

We are one, of only a very few in Texas, that does regional economic development.

What makes your community a great place for business and people to thrive? If you don’t represent a community, how do you help economic development organizations succeed?

You have to evolve. If you are not providing every possible service your community, its residents or its businesses need, then you are not successful.

Tell us about your favorite place/thing to do in your community.

The local downtown businesses are my absolute favorite. I love to patronize these local businesses, talk with the owners, learn about what they have going on and connect all that with everything the organization does. When you connect the dots, its amazing how many advocates you have out there.

If you had a message to those considering a career in economic development, what would it be and why should they enter the field?

Meet everyone and anyone you can. In economic development, you are the ultimate connector.
