"In a single day I'll dig into the code around leasehold tax, meet with a small bike shop owner, and develop a program to increase tourism in our town. Everyday is something new, and it's great to be out in the community on the daily."

Under Juliana’s leadership, Issaquah has seen a synergy of support networks, including neighborhood groups, the Chamber, and the City, all collaborating to uplift the local economy. The hidden gem of Tiger Mountain, known for its paragliding and mountain biking trails, adds to the allure, drawing visitors and businesses alike.

Because of Julia and other economic development champions, Issaquah isn’t just a place to do business—it’s a place where people and businesses grow together, creating a community that’s as diverse as it is united, a mission that resonates deeply with the IEDC.

We honor heroes like Juliana, who work tirelessly to create opportunities, advance careers, and build communities where everyone can prosper.

How long have you worked in economic development?

A little over a year.

How did you enter the economic development profession?

I joined city government in an administrative role because I was drawn to public service and jumped at the opportunity to transition to economic development. I was in graduate school for my MBA so economic development seemed like a great way to combine my business and finance knowledge with public service and community development.

What is your favorite thing about working in economic development?

I love the diversity of tasks and opportunities in economic development! In a single day I'll dig into the code around leasehold tax, meet with a small bike shop owner, and develop a program to increase tourism in our town. Everyday is something new, and it's great to be out in the community on the daily.

Tell us about the community or organization you represent.

The City of Issaquah is located about 17 miles outside of Seattle and is home to the global headquarters of Costco, satellite offices for REI, major retailers, and small local and home-based businesses. Issaquah is a highly desired place to live because of its vibrant arts scene, outdoor recreation opportunities, and it's diverse population.

What makes your community a great place for business and people to thrive?

Issaquah is a great place for business and for people because of the diversity in our community. From a diverse mix of businesses to demographics, to a wide variety of industries, recreational opportunities, there's something for everybody here. We also have a robust network of support; neighborhood groups, the Chamber, the DMO, and the City all work together to provide comprehensive support for the businesses and organizations that call Issaquah home.

Tell us about your favorite place/thing to do in your community.

Tiger Mountain is a major draw for visitors, residents, and businesses, yet it is still a hidden gem. Internationally known for paragliding, regionally beloved for mountain biking, and coveted nationally for its trail running and hiking. Tiger Mountain offers some accessible trails and is close to town for a post-activity beverage or meal.
