How long have you worked in economic development?
I have five years of experience in Economic Development. I spent the first four years working with the County of El Paso Economic Development as the Business Retention and Expansion Coordinator, and for the past year and two months, I've been with the City of El Paso Economic & International Development as the Lead Multimedia coordinator.
How did you enter the economic development profession?
I entered the economic development profession when I joined the County of El Paso, Texas in 2017 as the Business Retention and Expansion Coordinator. This role ignited my passion for supporting the local business community and sparked my journey in economic development.
What is your favorite thing about working in economic development?
My favorite aspect of working in economic development is witnessing firsthand how my efforts impact businesses of all sizes—small, medium, and large—helping them grow and expand through the implementation of the communications of programs and services offered in our Sun City.

El Paso, also known as the Sun City and 915, is a lively place celebrated for its history, culture, delicious food, and innovation. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and enjoying 300 days of sunshine each year, El Paso is perfect for outdoor fun all year round.
What makes your community a great place for business and people to thrive?
The Borderplex Region, encompassing El Paso, Texas, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, MX, is a dynamic bi-national hub. Over the past five years, El Paso has risen to become the 6th largest city in Texas and the 22nd largest in the United States. This region features a thriving manufacturing and retail sector, evidenced by $108 billion in trade in 2022, with over 495 manufacturing operations and 75 related plants in El Paso and Las Cruces. El Paso's economy is fueled by innovation and global commerce, supporting local manufacturers and facilitating global distribution through its trade port. The city's education sector includes nationally recognized institutions like Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and the University of Texas at El Paso, known for advanced manufacturing research and technology development. With a strong 68% bilingual workforce exceeding 300,000 skilled individuals, El Paso is a crucial hub for manufacturing talent, reinforced by institutions like El Paso Community College's Advanced Technology Center. El Paso is surrounded by mountains, providing 300 days of sunshine annually to enjoy outdoor activities year-round.
Tell us about your favorite place/thing to do in your community.
One of the things I absolutely love about El Paso is our lively local restaurant scene. Our city is buzzing with growth, and there's always a new small business to discover, each offering its own special dining experience. I get a thrill out of cozy eateries that highlight the diverse culinary skills of our community. After a weekend hike in the Franklin mountains, I like to reward myself with a hearty breakfast at one of these local spots. It's not just about the food—it's about backing our local entrepreneurs and enjoying the unique flavors and creativity that make El Paso truly one-of-a-kind.

To me, economic development as a professional marketer means being the driving force behind The City of El Paso Economic Development & International Department's marketing and strategic communications efforts. I find joy in crafting captivating content that fuels the department's mission and contributes to the success of its services throughout the Borderplex region.
