How long have you worked in economic development?

16 years at the city and county level.

How did you enter the economic development profession?

I stumbled into the profession in 2008 with a local municipality, but little did I know that this opportunity would shape my entire career. As the years went by, I found myself deeply embedded in the local community, cultivating connections and fostering a sense of unity. 

What is your favorite thing about working in economic development?

Communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds and societal positions—from the C-Suite to citizens. Everyone has a unique story and perspective, and working with diverse stakeholders allows for better collaboration and drives innovation.

Tell us about the community or organization you represent.

Created in 1993, Charleston County Economic Development is dedicated to recruiting new businesses, growing existing industries, and improving the Charleston business climate. Over the past three decades, more than $7 billion in capital investment and 40,000 jobs have been created in the high-impact clusters of advanced manufacturing, life sciences, defense, logistics, and IT.

What makes your community a great place for business and people to thrive?

Besides being the most exquisite and friendly community, Charleston County’s intentional focus on a diverse business ecosystem fosters sustainability, provides varied career choices, and boosts resilience during economic uncertainty.

Tell us about your favorite place/thing to do in your community.

My family has recently started playing pickleball, and we love it! Our community offers outdoor and indoor courts, and we can make it a fun family experience no matter the weather outside.

If you had a message to those considering a career in economic development, what would it be and why should they enter the field?

Engage in building relationships with multiple mentors for personal and professional growth. Each mentor brings a unique perspective and expertise, allowing you to benefit from diverse insights and experiences. It's like having a toolkit of wisdom to draw from, and it can build a well-rounded foundation for success.

What does economic development mean to you?

I want to enhance the community I call home for the betterment of myself, my family, and the generations to come.
