Get to know Kimberly
How long have you worked in economic development?
Two years within the County of Nevada. Since 2007 as a board member of the local Nevada County Economic Resource Council.
How did you enter the economic development profession?
I was Executive Director of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation for 22 years. Early in my tenure, I was asked to serve on the Nevada County Economic Resource Council representing both the hospital and hospital foundation. While I had some background in economic development, specific to housing, during my previous tenure as Executive Director for the California Building Industry Foundation, my time with the ERC helped me understand how important economic development was to our rural region.
What is your favorite thing about working in economic development?
Working with people, businesses and agencies to help them find solutions to their challenges and move meaningful projects forward to success.

Nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, Nevada County, California, is a rural haven that offers a serene escape with its lush forests, meandering rivers, and historic towns. Known for its vibrant arts scene, it hosts two of the state's culture districts. Small businesses thrive in Nevada City, Grass Valley, and Truckee. Entrepreneurs have started many successful industry businesses that include manufacturing, healthcare, technology and more.
The County of Nevada government offices, serve as the administrative hub for local governance. Our offices encompass various departments responsible for public services such as public health, law enforcement, community development, social services, public works. and more. These offices facilitate citizen engagement, manage county resources, and implement policies to enhance community well-being and ensure efficient operation of county affairs.
What makes your community a great place for business and people to thrive?
Nevada County offers a picturesque blend of natural beauty, vibrant communities, and diverse opportunities. Its scenic landscapes provide endless outdoor activities, while its rich cultural scene offers art, music, and festivals. Strong community ties foster a sense of belonging, and a thriving local economy supports businesses and job growth. Excellent schools, healthcare facilities, and a focus on sustainability contribute to a high quality of life for residents and a welcoming environment for newcomers.
Tell us about your favorite place/thing to do in your community.
I am a Rotarian and love doing service for our community. One of the activities we do is the annual Toy Run. The second Saturday of December every year rain or shine several thousand motorcycles rumble through the streets of Nevada City and Grass Valley en route to our Fairgrounds, a parade like no other. I volunteer to gather toys as the thousands of motorcyclists come through, some bringing bags of toys and then later when the families that struggle all come through to pick out toys.
