The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Floyd Batiste, a distinguished leader and visionary in the field of economic development. Floyd Batiste's contributions, especially his tenure as the CEO of the Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation, have left an indelible mark on the community he passionately served. 

For over 17 years, Floyd Batiste was a driving force in Port Arthur, Texas, where he worked tirelessly to foster economic growth, attract businesses, and improve the lives of local residents. His leadership was instrumental in the development of numerous projects, including workforce initiatives and business expansion efforts that have significantly impacted the economic landscape of the region. In recognition of his outstanding leadership, Floyd was honored by IEDC with the Jeffrey A. Finkle Organizational Leadership Award in 2020, a testament to his dedication and impact in the field. 

Floyd was closely connected to the IEDC community. He was related to Mandi Mitchell, a current member of the IEDC Board, and encouraged her to pursue the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation. His influence extended beyond his immediate work, motivating others to achieve excellence in their careers. 

"Floyd Batiste was more than just a respected leader in economic development; he was a pioneer with a heart for service and a vision for his community," said Nathan Ohle, IEDC President and CEO. "His legacy is one of transformation, leadership, and unwavering dedication. Floyd’s impact will continue to be felt for generations, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to work with him." 

Floyd was not only a respected professional but also a beloved mentor and friend to many. He was known for his collaborative spirit and his ability to inspire others to work toward a shared vision of prosperity. His legacy of service and dedication will continue to influence and guide the field of economic development for years to come. 

IEDC extends its deepest condolences to Floyd Batiste’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We honor his memory and celebrate the extraordinary contributions he made to the field of economic development and the lives of so many. He will be greatly missed.
