By Allison Wallace, IEDC

The last two-plus years of the pandemic have brought complications for businesses and industries across the globe. One unifying issue has been supply chain disruptions. Despite some recent improvements, with geopolitical tensions rising around the world it is likely that these issues will not go away anytime soon. Panels discuss Biden’s corporate tax proposals

By Colton Campbell, IEDC fellow

The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center cohosted a webinar with the University of North Carolina Tax Center titled What Are the Effects of the Biden Administration’s Corporate Tax Proposals? Jared Bernstein, a member of the U.S. Council of Economic Affairs, kicked off the webinar by detailing how the response to the current crisis has been “uniquely strong”. He identified some of the labor market’s constraints and barriers that exist between supply and demand, such as the coronavirus, vaccination rates, affordable childcare, and enhanced unemployment insurance. Shifting the discussion to tax policy, Bernstein believes in a few motivating operations to prioritize. First, we must “relink” pre-tax growth ...

By Melanie Hwang

By Chance Robinson, IEDC intern In response to President Biden’s executive order implementing the Buy American Act, Regional Economic Models, Inc. (REMI) held a webinar to discuss the economic impacts U.S. manufacturing will feel. Using economic modeling, REMI looked at various outcomes for the U.S. economy. History and background The Buy American Act was originally signed in 1933 by President Hoover, requiring the U.S. government to favor American-made goods over imported goods. President Trump strengthened the act in both 2017 and 2019, and on January 25, 2021, President Biden signed the act by way of executive order. One of the biggest changes to the act deals with end products made predominantly from steel or iron. Previously ...
