At IEDC’s Annual Conference in September, the Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO) program hosted the Future of Economic Development roundtable discussion session. The session examined four trends impacting EDOs: quiet hiring, staying knowledgeable in a rapidly expanding industry, strategic planning in a post-pandemic world, and integrating technology and data tools.

IEDC recently held a webinar to update stakeholders on its strategic planning process. Ernst & Young’s economic development strategy team went over findings from the discovery phase, including stakeholder input and SWOT analysis results. Since last fall, EY has conducted surveys, interviews, focus groups, staff workshops, and board sessions, and accumulated 850 responses. The team has synthesized stakeholder feedback and is now building a budget. EY is focused on how IEDC can create economic vibrancy in communities across the U.S. by leveraging newly available federal dollars.
