Robert Van Geons
Organization: Fayetteville Cumberland County Economic Development Corporation
Location: Fayetteville, NC

Since 2017, Robert has been President and CEO of the Fayetteville Cumberland County Economic Development Corporation, announcing more than $500 million in new investment and 5,000 jobs, with international and domestic companies. His team is committed to building a dynamic and business-friendly community, leveraging next-generation technologies and Fayetteville’s diverse and uniquely skilled workforce. Robert believes that successful communities prosper when the public and private sectors work together.

Robert is proud to represent Fayetteville & Cumberland County NC, the home of Ft. Liberty. This historic military installation, the largest in the world (by population), transitions 7,000 skilled, experienced, and dependable personnel into the civilian workforce each year. These proven men and women, and their families, mean that Fayetteville, NC, has one of the youngest workforces in the Southern United States, providing a cost-competitive and internationally diverse workforce (more than 80 languages are spoken in our community). These powerful demographics, combined with pro-growth leadership, shovel-ready sites, and comprehensive transportation infrastructure, have led to a number of recent announcements including projects with Amazon, MetroNet, Cargill, Danson’s, Booze Allen Hamilton, eClerx, Advanced Computer Learning Company, CACI, and Campbell Soup.

Robert has nearly 20 years of economic development experience, helping companies execute their location strategies and communities achieve their economic development goals. His work has led to the announcement of more than $2.5 billion of investment and 6,500 jobs. He is particularly proud of the work that FCEDC is currently doing to identify a 1,200-acre Megasite, establish an HR Talent Portal Facility for transitioning service members, and launch North Carolina’s first publicly backed economic equity investment fund.

Robert, along with his wife Tara, two daughters, 14 guitars, and four rescue cats, resides in Fayetteville, NC.
