Get to know Kamesha "Kay" West

How long have you worked in economic development?

Almost 7 years now.

How did you enter the economic development profession?

After ten years of serving on boards that supported community and economic initiatives, Economic Development was at the top of my list for career moves. I started my own consulting company and began taking courses to increase my knowledge and took on roles to gain more experience in my field.

What is your favorite thing about working in economic development?

I love research and problem solving.

Tell us about the community or organization you represent.

People In Place Economics Consulting is a social impact community and economic development firm based in Shreveport, Louisiana.

How do you make economic development organization succeed?

I support my community by being a connector and collaborator and bringing innovative resources to support policy and place-making. As a technical assistance provider, it brings me much joy to help my community and others to advance initiatives for a more significant impact.

Tell us about your favorite place/thing to do in your community.

My favorite thing about Shreveport is the momentum of growth in the community. With 50 Cent and G-Unit Studios coming to the City, I see a new torch leading the charge for a vibrant, and more diverse city. I think downtown Shreveport will be my new favorite place. #allroadsleadtoshreveport

If you had a message to those considering a career in economic development, what would it be and why should they enter the field?

I would encourage them to go on listening tours to ask questions and understand the various segments within economic development. I would ask them to consider diversity in unrepresented roles for Economic Development Districts and Site Selectors.
