Through its affiliation with the Education Resources Information Center
(ERIC) system, the Center for
Entrepreneurial Leadership - Clearinghouse on Entrepreneurial Education has
acquired a large collection of entrepreneurial indexes, abstracts, and other
educational materials. CELCEE also maintains a collection of curriculum guides,
project and program reports, analyses and evaluations, and training support
manuals; and provides information analysis services by preparing and
synthesizing the education materials it collects.
Edward Lowe Small Business
Network is an information service for small business owners, entrepreneurs,
and assistance organizations. Accessible through SmallbizNet is the mall
business management resources.
Enterweb is an
annotated information clearinghouse on enterprise development, business,
finance, international trade, and the economy. It focuses mainly micro, small
and medium scale enterprises, cooperatives, and community economic development
in both developed and developing countries. The site lists and rates Internet
resources.
EntreWorld is a
comprehensive online resource for entrepreneurs provided by the Kauffman Center.
In addition to news, information, and links areas, the site has a well-organized
search area organized into three areas: Starting Your Business, Growing Your
Business, and Supporting Entrepreneurship.
The Ewing Marion
Kauffman Foundation is a non-profit institution funded to encourage
entrepreneurial development and education. Through a variety of programs and
strategies, the center operates an Entrepreneur Training Institute and offers a
support and sponsorship program for research and publication initiatives
involving business incubation, capital funding, enterprise development, and
minority entrepreneurship.
The Federal
MarketPlace is a procurement data warehouse and a source of information and
contact services to the federal government.
Small businesses can find legal representation and other legal resources
by using LawInfo, which
provides a legal industry and attorney directory, bar associations, and data on
legal research.
The MIT
Enterprise Forum romotes the formation and growth of innovative and
technologically-oriented companies through specialized education programs.
Operated by a core group of MIT graduates and experienced entrepreneurs through
18 U.S. and overseas chapters, the forum offers professional seminars, startup
clinics, case presentations, and business plan workshops. The Web site includes
a bibliography of business plan writing resources and journal articles.
Sponsored by the University of Central Arkansas, the Small Business Advancement
National Center maintains a small business search engine that enables users
to find small business resources throughout the Internet.
Government Resources
The Small Business
Administration (SBA) provides a variety of technical and financial
assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs. Recognizing that small
businesses contribute significantly to growth in the economy, the SBA maintains
regional centers to foster small business growth.
The SBA Office of
Advocacy maintains the largest site of federal data on businesses by firm
size. They also report about various business issues, such as women and
minority-owned businesses, mergers and acquisitions, state reports, banking
studies, etc.
The SBA Office of
International Trade helps small businesses with international trade and
offers information on international and USEAC trade events.
The SBA Office of
Minority Enterprise Development answers frequently asked questions about
starting a business and provides management and technical assistance.
Information on minority pre-qualification loan programs is also available.
The SBA Women's
Business Center helps women start and build successful businesses.
The mission of the Office
of Government Contracting is to advocate, facilitate and create an
environment for the maximum practicable participation by small, small
disadvantaged, and small woman-owned businesses, in contracts awarded by the
U.S. Government and subcontracts awarded by its large prime contractors.
The U.S. Senate Committee
on Small Business outlines issues being examined by the Committee and
current Senate legislative initiatives relating to small business.

The Federal Financial
Institutions Examinations Council is an inter-agency body which prescribes
uniform principles, standards, and report forms for the federal examination of
financial institutions. The Web site provides selected FFIEC reports and
information on the Community Reinvestment and Home Mortgage Disclosure Acts.
The Federal Trade
Commission is responsible for monitoring the nation's market system and
enforcing consumer and antitrust laws. It is also engaged in business and
consumer education.
FEDWORLD was
established by the Department of Commerce to serve as a comprehensive inventory
of government and business information. It provides 20 searchable databases and
bulletin board service.
Trade Adjustment
Assistance for Firms (TAA), a federal program, provides financial assistance
to manufacturers affected by import competition. Sponsored by the U.S.
Department of Commerce, this cost-sharing federal assistance program pays for
half the cost of consultants or industry-specific experts for projects that
improve a manufacturer's competitiveness.
The U.S. Federal Deposit and
Insurance Corporation provides general information to consumers and
banks, publishing aggregate banking statistics each quarter. Other data on
FDIC-insured institutions is updated weekly.
The U.S. General Services
Administration is a comprehensive resource of information on one of the
government's three central management agencies. The GSA oversees virtually all
of the service and supply management for the U.S. government including:
transportation, computers, telecommunications, office and storage facilities and
equipment.
The U.S. Occupational Safety
and Health Administration enforces labor and occupational health codes. The
Web site provides a comprehensive listing of related labor and health laws and
informative guidelines for both employers and employees.
The U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office is responsible for protecting intellectual property through
the enforcement of patent/trademark law. It also disseminates patent information
and promotes technological innovation and investment.
